Founder’s Story – Lena’s Journey

        Lena has always had a deep-rooted dream of helping those less fortunate in her community. From a young age, she envisioned starting a nonprofit organization to make a real difference. However, her dream seemed shattered after a serious workplace injury left her with a crushed back. The pain was overwhelming, and for a time, she felt as if her hopes of ever starting her own organization were gone. However, Lena refused to give up. She explained, “Every time I thought things might get better, I couldn’t help but feel crushed again, especially when I heard about another senseless death—another young life lost to gun violence.” Whether it was a drive-by shooting or a deliberate act of violence, it bothered her deeply, as if the child who had been lost was someone she had just seen or knew. The pain of these tragic events weighed heavily on her heart. She struggled, knowing the victims were often younger, and with each senseless loss, the burden grew. Despite these challenges, Lena’s dream never faded. She became determined to help in a new way. In her own words, “Things weren’t getting better. In fact, it seemed like the victims were getting younger, and it broke my heart more each time.” Yet, Lena couldn’t shake the feeling that she had to do something—something that would make a real impact. Through the development of a unique gaming platform, Lena found a way to connect with young people, to help them reflect on their actions before making life-changing decisions. “The platform means the world to me,” she said, “because not only does it teach young people to think before they act, but it also encourages empathy by putting them in the shoes of others. It challenges them to imagine what it would be like if it was their family member who suffered the loss.” The game creates scenarios that help users see the world from different perspectives, with the hope of fostering a deeper understanding of pain and loss. It’s been said that if we walk a mile in someone else’s shoes, we begin to understand their path—and their pain. Lena’s platform is built on this idea, allowing players to experience the emotional weight of loss and, hopefully, making them think twice before engaging in harmful behavior. Lena’s unwavering passion and resilience have made her a driving force in the fight to bring empathy and understanding to a generation that desperately needs it.
